Salary requirements for the Health and Care Visa

The minimum salary requirements for the Health and Care Worker route in the UK depend on the specific role and circumstances. Here’s a breakdown of the key points:

Standard Minimum Salary:
Generally, individuals must be paid at least £25,600 per year or £10.10 per hour to meet the minimum salary requirements for this visa route. However, the minimum salary may be higher if the going rate for the specific role is above this threshold.

Going Rate for the Role:
Each occupation code has its own going rate, and individuals must earn at least the going rate for their role. For example, if the going rate for an occupation is £30,000, an individual earning £28,000 must be paid at least £30,000 to meet the minimum salary requirement.

Exceptions to the Standard Minimum Salary:
In some circumstances, individuals can still qualify for this visa with a salary lower than £25,600 per year if:

  •    The job is in a role on the Shortage Occupation List.
  •    They are under 26, a student, a recent graduate, or in professional training.
  •    They have a relevant STEM PhD qualification or a postdoctoral position in a scientific role.

Reduced Salary Threshold
:
If any of the above exceptions apply, individuals can be paid between 7090% of the going rate for their job, provided that their salary is at least £20,480 per year. If they have a relevant PhD qualification, their salary can be £23,040 per year

Certificate of Sponsorship requirements

To obtain a Health and Care Worker Visa, you must have a valid Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) issued by a government approved employer in the UK. The CoS is an electronic record, not a physical document. The requirements for the CoS differ slightly for Health and Care Workers compared to Skilled Worker Visa applicants.

If applying under the Health and Care route, your employer must also include a brief explanation in the CoS detailing how you meet the Health and Care Worker requirements. If your employer provides medical services for the NHS, they may need to submit evidence of their contract with the NHS.
