The UK Tier 1 Investor visa allows individuals to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after living in the UK for two, three, or five years, depending on the circumstances. The requirements for ILR include maintaining the investment, not spending more than 180 days outside of the UK in any 12-month period, and demonstrating sufficient knowledge of the English language and Life in the UK. The route is closed for new applicants, but those already on the route can apply for ILR until 17 February 2028.
After five years of continuous residence as a Tier 1 Investor, individuals can apply for ILR, which may be accelerated under certain conditions. The investment must have been maintained, and the English language and Life in the UK requirements must be met.
The deadline for those initially granted their investor visa prior to 6 November 2014 is 6 April 2025. The investment requirement for ILR after 6 April 2022 is at least £2 million for five years. ILR allows individuals to live in the UK without any restrictions and is the first step towards naturalisation and full citizenship.
The UK Tier 1 Investor visa is initially valid for 3 years and 4 months if applying from outside the UK, or 3 years if processed within the UK. After this initial period, individuals can apply to extend their visa for another 2 years, or they can apply for accelerated settlement if they meet the investment criteria.
Accelerated settlement is available after 2 years with a £10 million investment or after 3 years with a £5 million investment. Additionally, individuals who have resided in the UK as a Tier 1 Investor for a continuous period of five years become eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR).
The UK Tier 1 Investor visa extension is no longer available for new applicants, as the route has been closed. Existing Tier 1 Investor visa holders had until 5th April 2023 to apply for an extension. The extension requirements varied depending on when the initial visa was granted and the specific investment made.
For those who successfully applied for the Tier 1 Investor visa between 6 November 2014 and 28 March 2019, an extension was possible if specific investment criteria were met.
